VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

Abetifi Presbyterian College of Education, a renowned College of Education dedicated to training professional teachers for Ghana’s basic school system and affiliated with the University of Cape Coast (UCC), invites applications from qualified and interested persons for the positions of Principal and Vice Principal.

PRINCIPAL

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties of the Principal, who is the chief academic, administrative, and disciplinary officer of the College, shall include:

  • Providing strategic leadership and direction to the College.
  • Overseeing the academic, administrative, and financial operations of the College.
  • Leading the implementation of quality teaching and learning.
  • Mobilising grants, partnerships, and funding for research and institutional development.
  • Fostering strong relationships with staff, students, alumni, and other stakeholders.
  • Upholding the College’s reputation, values, and standards of excellence.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

The candidate must:

  • Hold a rank not below that of Associate Professor in a College of Education, University, or analogous institution.
  • Possess a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree or equivalent in a relevant area.
  • Be a distinguished scholar.
  • Have at least ten (10) years of progressive experience in teaching and/or research, including a minimum of five (5) years in a senior management position or leadership.
  • Demonstrate proven leadership, managerial capabilities, and excellent communication skills.
  • Have a good understanding of the operations of the colleges of education and higher education institutions in Ghana.
  • Possess a strong drive to promote a culture of scholarship, innovation, and continuous learning among staff.
  • Possess a good character and a high degree of personal integrity.

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT

  • The appointment is for an initial period of four (4) years and may be renewed for one additional term of four (4) years only, subject to satisfactory performance and provided that the four (4) years would be served before the compulsory retirement age of sixty (60) years.
  • Salaries and conditions of service are attractive and comparable to similar positions in Ghana.
  • Applicant must not be more than 55 years old at the time of application.

VICE PRINCIPAL

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Vice Principal shall:

  • Assist the Principal in the overall management and administration of the College.
  • Act as Principal in the absence of the Principal.
  • Supervise academic Heads of Department in the performance of their duties.
  • Perform any other functions assigned by the Principal.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

The candidate must:

  • Hold a rank not below that of Associate Professor in a College of Education, University or analogous institution. However, a candidate of Senior Lecturer rank may be considered.
  • Possess a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in a relevant area.
  • Be a distinguished scholar.
  • Have at least eight (8) years of progressive experience in teaching/research, with at least four (4) years in a senior management position or leadership.
  • Possess a good character and a high degree of personal integrity.

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT

  • The appointment of a person of Professorial rank is for an initial period of three (3) years and may be renewed for one additional term of three (3) years only, subject to satisfactory performance and provided the three (3) years would be served before the compulsory retirement age of sixty (60) years.
  • In the case of a Senior Lecturer, the appointment shall be for a period of two (2) years and may be renewed for one additional term of two (2) years only, subject to satisfactory performance and provided the two (2) years would be served before the compulsory retirement age of sixty (60) years.
  • Salaries and conditions of service are attractive and comparable to similar positions in Ghana.
  • Applicants with a Professorial rank must not be more than 56 years old at the time of application.
  • Applicants with a Senior Lecturer rank must not be more than 57 years old at the time of application.

  1. Application letter (cover letter).
  2. Detailed Curriculum Vitae (CV).
  3. Three (3) confidential recommendation letters from listed referees (to be sent directly to the address below).
  4. A vision statement of not more than two (2) pages, which should be 1.5 line spacing and in font size 12, Times New Roman.
  5. Any other relevant documents.
